Backpost: 2005, Fall- My friend Amy’s 19th birthday was upon us, and I was tasked with making the cake.
Out of the bookshelf came my appropriately-named recipe book “Chocolate”, and I decided to try the double-chocolate cake.
However it seemed a bit plain… so I cut it in a square, layered the side with lady fingers, and topped it with a heap of strawberries masserated and chilled in vanilla and sugar.
The result was one of the yummiest cakes I can say I’ve ever made, and Amy seemed happy with it! Unfortunately, as this was several years ago, I can’t quite remember the details of what changes and substitutions I made to the recipe- namely, cooling time and what the consistency of the base was like, as I haven’t a photo of a slice- but thought it worth documenting here, regardless:
